      Labor Day weekend has been a popular rendezvous for families to gather at the orchard for 39 years to reunite with favorite artists, creative crafters, and to meet new juried exhibitors whose additional work enhances this nationally acclaimed event which has developed a strong reputation as a holiday destination.

      Fascinating “on location demonstrations“ evolve as “The Eclectic Hen” Ronet Noe generously applies acrylic paint to her sculptured, high relief flowers and vibrantly colored sunbursts.  Fran Henderson paints oil murals of calm, coastal views. “The Accidental Artist” Carrie B. Jacobson works with heavy palette knife strokes to achieve her majestic landscapes and features of animal companions.   Michael McCarthy carves wooden shorebirds, surrounded by an appreciative audience,  he wields his chisels till a bird appears from a simple wood block. Nicole Lynch uses oil paints on site to achieve a true to nature, realistic approach for her still life, nature, and studies of living things.

     Greg Stones introduces his second published book “Zombies Hate Stuff” accompanied by his humorous miniature gouache paintings.   Carl Richards returns with his impressionistic acrylic paintings and ink drawings. Phillip Chagnon discusses his watercolor portraits of ships, light houses,  and sailing vessels on nautical charts.  We are happy to feature-new artists -Ramona Maziarz of Delaware who executes very detailed , colorful, pen and ink nature scenes and limited edition prints, and  S.B. Whitehead of PA who uses archival materials for matting and framing his original oil paintings on canvas and watercolor scenics on paper.

      Wonderful wood turners, joiners, carvers, inlayers, offer Burl Bowls, jewel and linen chests, incised and  painted panels, kaleidoscopes and writing instruments, intarsia wood mosaics, vases and vessels.  Their creators include K. Guarneri, D. Hart, M. Iacona, K. Lindgren, and V. Russello.  Glass artisans- “Creative Spirit Glass” showcases stained glass panels, mirrors, and turtles for children to touch. “Shattered Glass Studio’s” hand cut each piece of kiln formed glass.  Other crafts include hand made quilts, fabric table linens and accessories, purses made of vintage books, gourds and fabric.  Hand built  functional stoneware, pottery, and ceramics

      Pamela Hirth designs and makes one of a kind women’s clothing in luxurious and flowing fiber and Elizabeth Swanson creates handsome suede jackets and coats for approaching Autumn. Author James Dongweck signs his book “The Uncrossable Canyon” a children’s beautifully illustrated hard cover book that he wrote in Old Saybrook.

      Photographers -S. Caim, T. Chesnut, D.m. Curt, M. Johnson, J. Mulry, arrive with digital mixed media embellished with acrylic paint, and glass ; “Romantic Renaissance Reflections” of archaic architecture; “Tarborton Mountain”-fine art scapes; “Photo Imagined” Kaleidoscopic lens views and sights; “J. Katch Creations”-Orchid Babies, outdoor tiles, and canvas giclee’s. The jewelers chosen are: A.M. Disisto,C. Foley, A. Liss, S. Swinney, L. Weller, who create sterling silver, clay, pearl, gem stone, holographic-deep fired-fused, dichroic glass, art to wear. Watch as E. Villegas of New London demonstrates ancient ”Peruvian Point”-  intricately woven gold, silver, and copper threads combined with shells, leather stones, crystals, and feathers.
